November 17,2008- Time to go for a HUGE test. I went to get an MRI so that it can check if the previously reported abnormal growth around my brain is reduced or (what I hope) gone. After what seemed like 3hours of sitting in this machine, I am released and told to check with the Doctor in 24hrs for results. 24hrs!!! I am thinking that this first test can be a sign of things to come.
November 18, 2008- Today I heard some GREAT news. The radiation treatment that I hated to go to did exactly what the doctors wanted it to do. Abnormal growth around my brain has either been killed or reduced to a level where I need not to worry about it for the time being. YAY!!!!!!!!! I am SOOOOOOOOO happy!!! Since this is the first treatment result I have gotten and it is positive, we are all praying this is a sign of good things to come.
November 19, 2008- I have my bracelets in and have sold MANY of them. I THANK YOU all so much for your support!! I can see how many people have checked out this site and I cant stop smiling. Get with Adam via email or in person if you'd like to get a bracelet. The strong words and support from everyone is astonishing!!!!
December 2, 2008- BIG DAY for me.....I went to see Dr. Pennell this morning. Had to take a CT Scan and blood work prior to seeing him. 10:30 rolls around and its time to talk to the Doctor. He tells me that as of now the Tarceva is working!! My CT Scan shows NO SIGNS of abnormal activity within my chest. OMG!! I think Adam wanted to high five the doctor. I have to stay on Tarceva because there is still some spots around my brain but nothing to stress over. So I ask the doctor a NUMBER of times just to clarify, "I was diagnosed with Stage 4 NSCLC and told there is too much cancer in my chest to have it removed. Now your telling me that there is no cancer in my chest?" Doctor confirms that he sees nothing in my chest and as of now our main focus will be to stay on Tarceva and see him in 2 months. Am I REALLY beating this devil this quick?!!! I think it is owed to all the prayers, support, and positive attitude that I have maintained. I know that I can beat this and will do so in no time flat if it is up to me and the prayers.
December 14, 2008- My fight continues but since it is a fight I have my good times and bad times. Recently I am getting the side effects of the Tarceva stronger than I would like. The good part is it is working, the bad is that it can dry my skin out so bad that I feel like lotioning myself every 15mins!! But when it comes to winning, I will take it. I head back to the Cleveland Clinic on the 16th for an unexpected checkup. Should be just routine but I initiated the visit just to reassure myself that all is going good. On an extremely positive note......the support and love and prayers from EVERYONE has really touched me and the family!! All of our supporters have been AMAZING!! From Adam's job, to mine and all the various friends, family, and even complete strangers WE THANK YOU!!!!
January 27th, 2009- I have had a LOT going on recently and am soooo sorry I havent updated the site. I am still taking Tarceva daily. Recently me and Adam got to escape to Clearwater/Tampa for 4days and it was perfect! I needed to see if the sun would help my dry skin and it did! Told Adam we need to make a move South asap!!!
Today I went to see Dr.Pennell again. He had me do all the tests to get an understanding of where I stand. MRI, CT Scan, bloodwork done. Dr. Pennell meets us and tells me news that brought me to tears. I held back the tears but they were there and Adam even had some too. Tears were coming through because.....Dr. Pennell says that he sees no evidence of Cancer in my chest. Thats right NADA, NOTHING! Now we know its in my blood still so the Tarceva will fight that for us. He also says that the tumors that are present around my brain (which I took radiation for) continue to shrink and to this point are the smallest that he has seen them. So......Tarceva is working (even the bad side effects but I can work with those) I will keep taking it daily and now I do not see the Doctor again until late April. Thank you so much Dr. Pennell Katie! We are so happy that I am beating this devil. God is Great and does wonders! I am sure that all of the prayers and thoughts that each of our friends and supporters send also have alot to do with me winning so far. PLEASE keep them going and I hope to do what some doctors didnt think I could do, which is beat this devil!!! Behind closed doors this fight is hard and ugly @ times. So I'd like to give a special Thank you to my husband and oldest daughter Naomi for your love, support and prayers through it all! I love you.

Increasingly, soy products have been praised as a nutritious and non-animal source of protein. It has been used in products such as tofu, infant formula and soymilk. Vegetarians praise soy analogs as a substitute for meat. Soybeans are being studied by scientists as a curative for such wide ranging medical problems as heart disease, menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis and cancer. However, there are growing soy health concerns for several reasons.
Soybeans contain a high level of a natural compound which apes the female hormone known as estrogen. Critics of the soybean say that as little as two glasses per day of soy milk can change a womans menstrual cycle. Critics also point out that soybeans as they appear in nature are not suitable for consumption by humans. All dried beans contain chemicals called phytic acids, but soybeans contain this anti-nutrient in higher levels than other beans. The action of phytic acid in the body is to remove nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, iron and calcium.
This is one of the soy health concerns in developing nations where soybeans are a major food crop. Not only do people in these countries show reduced levels of these minerals, but it may cause nutritional shortfalls in infant formula based on the soybean protein isolate in this country as well.
The only way to make soybeans palatable is to use an extraction process including high heat and chemicals or to subject the beans to extensive fermentation times. Long, slow cooking times which usually solve the problem of phytates are not successful with soybeans. In addition, soybeans contain certain enzyme inhibitors which prevent digestion
A substance called hemagglutinin which causes red blood cells to clot together has been shown to reduce the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood
Critics of soybeans point out that over 90% of all soybeans today come from genetically engineered beans. In addition, there is an extremely high level of pesticide usage on soybean crops.
Soy protein isolate preparation is not an easy process. The beans are mixed with alkaline solution to remove fiber, and then an acid wash in aluminum tanks is used, followed by another alkaline rinse to neutralize the beans. Soymilk prepared in this way contains over 1000% more aluminum than conventional formulas. The soybeans are formed into curds and spray dried at high temperatures to form soy powder. The powder is further heated and dried to form the textured vegetable protein products. Additional compounds formed during the heating and alkaline bath process include nitrites, known to cause cancer and the toxin lysinoalanine.
For all these reasons, soy health concerns are a growing storm of controversy.

3 cups sliced fresh strawberries, divided
2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping or Real Whipping Cream
Make It!
- BAKE cake in a 13x9-inch dish; set aside.
- ADD boiling water to jelly powders in large bowl; stir 2 min. until completely dissolved. Add ice cubes; stir 3 to 5 min. or until jelly is thickened. Remove any unmelted ice. Stir in 1 cup strawberries; pour over cake slices. Refrigerate 15 min. Cover with Cool Whip or Real Whipping Cream
- REFRIGERATE 4 hours or until jelly is firm. Arrange remaining strawberries over dessert to resemble the Canadian flag.

Hello All!
I wanted to let you know of a very exciting direction I am taking with my company; I have created 2 "cause bracelets" that I am very proud to offer.
The first bracelet is in honor of my brother and all of the men and women serving in the United States Army. The bracelet will consist of green, brown and black Swarovski pearls with sterling accents and clasp, and a sterling "ARMY" tag charm that hangs from the clasp.
The second bracelet I am offering is in honor of all of the women who have had breast cancer. It will consist of pink Swarovski pearls with a larger white pearl in the middle as a focal bead. It will be surrounded with 2 Swarovski crystal and sterling accent beads and have a breast cancer ribbon tag charm hanging from the clasp.
I am donating 50% of the net proceeds to two verified organizations; NMFA and the Susan Komen Foundation.
I should have these 2 designs posted on my site by the weekend; please pass the word around.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 218,890 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2007 and about 27,050 men will die of prostate cancer. A digital rectal exam will tell a doctor if there are bumps in the prostate that may be cancerous. African Americans and those who have a close relative who was diagnosed before age 65 are considered to be at high risk. Prostate cancer usually grows slowly so early diagnosis can save lives. This may be recommended if it is not causing any symptoms and has not spread.

Bone cancer is a rare disease that affects both children and adults. In 2008, approximately 2,400 new cases of primary bone cancers were diagnosed in the United States, and about 50% of these bone cancer patients died from this disease.
The tumors may start in the bone (primary cancer) or may start in another part of the body and spread to the bone (secondary cancer). There are several different types of primary bone cancer and all of them are rare. The most common bone tumors include osteosarcoma, ewings sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, fibrosarcoma, and chordoma. Osteosarcome: the most common type of primary bone cancer develops in new tissues of growing bones, particularly the knees, upper legs, upper arms. In secondary or metastatic bone cancer, the cancer originates in a different place but spreads (metastasizes) to the bones.
In most cases, the cause for bone cancer is unknown and the disease often occurs in patients who do not have identifiable risk factors. Bone cancer is discovered incidentally when an x-ray is taken after an accident for example or occasionally when the bone breaks due to weakness caused by the cancer. It is found most often in the arms and legs, but it can occur in any bone in the body.
Pain is the most frequent symptom of primary and metastatic cancer in bone. The main signs and symptoms of bone cancer in adults are: Pain in the bones or joints that often worsens during the night, there may also be fatigue, fever, or unexplained weight loss. Bone pain may be hard to differentiate from ordinary low back pain or arthritis. Other symptoms may vary depending on the location and size of the cancer.
Primary bone cancer, which arises directly in the bone (usually in the leg), is relatively rare and generally strikes people under the age of 20. Bone cancer is usually diagnosed about three months after symptoms first appear. However, in most cases, this suspicion must be confirmed by examination of a tissue or cell sample under a microscope. A biopsy is done to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment for primary bone cancer can include chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, or a combination of treatments. Surgery is often the main treatment for bone cancer. Bone surgery as a means of strengthening bones, splinting and correcting alignment might be necessary.
Cesium chloride, being a mineral-based treatment, can help protect the bones.

Contribute and help get HELP! My wife has Cancer A Practical Guide to Becoming the BEST Caregiver for Your Loved Ones with Cancer published.
When I set out to write a book on becoming the best caregiver one can possibly be to a loved one with cancer, my wife Jennifer was still with us. I was driven to write the book because I could not find any resource for caregivers like me -- that could answers my questions, give me support, help me cope with my pain and in short, provide an easy how-to guide to follow.
So I started writing, full of hope that it would help me in my journey as Jennifers caregiver. I started writing the book as a kind of journal, a guide compiled from the notes I kept for every visit to the doctor, for every therapy she underwent. I had hoped it would be a wonderful gift to both Jennifer and myself when she went into remission, that I could publish it to help others like me.
But it was not to be. Jennifer left us.
Six months after she passed away, I took time off work and spent it caring for our son and writing. It was a form of self-prescribed therapy. The words were angry and bitter, full of pain and hurt. It was very therapeutic, but would not really have offered much help to anyone else. Perhaps the therapy was indeed only meant for me.
I put the entire project aside, and moved on to other forms of therapy (which I describe in the book).
Then I chanced upon The Last Lecture on YouTube. It was and still is, the most compelling video Ive ever watched in my life. Randy Pausch inspired me to write this third version of the book that I now need your help to publish.
This book has been written to inspire caregivers of cancer patients, particularly if your loved one has terminal disease.
You may be reading this because you are a caregiver. Or you may be a cancer survivor. Or someone in your life has been touched with cancer whatever the case may be I am glad you are reading this.
I need your help, financially and in other ways, to see that this book gets published.
I have consulted my printers, and they tell me that the printing cost for each book is around RM15 (or US$4.30). I intend to have 5,000 copies printed, which will cost RM75,000 (US$21,500). I will fund RM25,000 of this amount, and I now need your help to cover the shortfall of RM50,000.
From the 5,000 copies I will make 2,000 copies freely available to the Oncology units in all the major government hospitals in Malaysia, and sell the rest for RM30 (US$8.50) each. The entire proceeds will be donated to LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation who Jennifer, Michael Jr and I support and to local cancer charities. I hope to raise RM100,000 with this effort the money will go along way to help, I am sure.
But more important than the money, is the message the book contains. This book has the potential to change lives I know, because it changed mine.
The experience of being a caregiver to my late wife has made me realize my full potential as a human being. The experience helped me transcend physical love (Eros) and move to unconditional love (Agape).
I have had to look death in the eye and accept it.
I have had to let go of the most precious moments in my memory the future we planned together and embrace the reality of life with her, just as she was. Making the most of the precious time we had left together.
I have had to live up to my end of the bargain when we made our matrimonial vows to each other: for better or for worse, in sickness and in health and kept it to the end, till death do us part.
I encourage you to take a moment now and think of the people in your lives whom this book could help. And then please help me get it published.
I have set-up two bank accounts for this purpose.
The first is a Maybank account primarily for my friends in Malaysia, the second is with HSBC so that contributors from outside of Malaysia can also send monies for this effort.

"Bloggers got bumpkiss. We have no lobbying group. We have no organization designed to help members learn the intricacies of uncovering government documents. We cant get government agencies to call us back at all, at times (I know, been there and done that). And weve got a newspaper industry increasingly portraying us as part of an evil axis thats killing them. Blogs steal their attention, and Google steals their visitors.

Breaking Boards For Breast Cancer Fundraiser
www.firstgiving.com/bonitaboutin.
The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation is having a fundraiser at the Flames of Hope..a Celebration of Life Waterfire in Providence RI October 11th. My karate studio, Mastery Martial Arts, will be hosting a board breaking event. The chief instructors will break 1,000 boards. It is so cool. People can buy a board for $10 and write a positive affirmation on it. Then after all the boards are broken, they will be placed on the fire and all the positive affirmations of love, faith, and healing will be sent off into the universe.
Please help me help this wonderful cause. Go to my fundraising website at
www.firstgiving.com/bonitaboutin.
This is a huge event. There will be a pink ribbon made out of people on our state house steps. The state house will be lighted in pink!! This event is so large it is receiving national coverage. Please help. We all have known someone in our lives where breast cancer has touched theirs. Donate to this worthy cause.

A friend of mine (a young friend - shes in her early 20s) was diagnosed a couple of months ago with a form of sarcoma. When she was diagnosed, the cancer had already reached stage 4; her survival chances are low, and shes already gone through several dangerous complications which, even if she survives them, will leave her permanently crippled.
Incidentally, she recognized the symptoms of this cancer nearly a year before she was diagnosed (she didnt recognize it as cancer, but had been in and out of doctors offices for a year before one finally recognized it as sarcoma - and shes not the type to complain idly) - most of her previous doctors assumed it was some kind of back problem, and she had been sent to chiropractors a couple of times. It was finally recognized as cancer when it started to migrate near her breasts, where abnormal tissues started to serve as warning flags for doctors.
Another family friend died a few years ago of lung cancer; it was also stage 4 when diagnosed. Incidentally, she was given extremely high survival rates when it was first diagnosed as breast cancer; these rates plummeted when her doctors realized that the mass was sitting a little further back than they first found.
It seems that the medical community files cancer into about four categories: breast cancer, prostate cancer, the patients own fault cancers (e.g. lung cancer and liver cancer, which are assumed to be caused by smoking or drinking, even if they arent), and cancers (which, not being as politically popular as breast cancer or prostate cancer, draw very little funding and attention from medical specialists). If youre unfortunate enough to have a type thats not breast or prostate cancer, your doctors either actively think you deserve to die, or theyre just completely in the dark about diagnosing and treating your cancer.
Has anyone else suffered losses from the politicization of cancer? Does it p*ss anyone else off that people with the wrong kind of cancer tend to have dismal chances of being diagnosed or treated properly, because cancer has become politicized so all the resources go to the types that can be used to help our little boys vs. girls fights?
Ive had family members die from liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, brain cancer and stomach cancer. Ive had family members that have survived breast cancer, cervical cancer and uterine cancer. Do I think these people were treated better? No, not really. These types of cancer are far more common and therefore have far more early detection tests in place. They were all in parts of the body that can be removed without killing the patient. Because Ive been highly involved in the Relay for Life (American Cancer Societys signature event) for the past 8 years I have met people who have survived all sorts of cancer.

Customer Review: Inspiring and Truthful
This is truly an inspiriational book on one lady who decided to truly take her health into her own hands and as a result discovered the human body's innate healing ability. It is a testament to the human spirit and and power within the human body. Dont mind psuedo-doctors like Dr Jay who are you typical know nothing but what Big Pharma wants em to thinkthey know it alls, but dont have a freaking clue about what real health. The only reason why he comes on here to state his opinion is he's not getting your money so he can review $6000 watches he buys off Amazon. Dr Jay, you are a worthless pile ^^
Customer Review: A Caring Person Who Gently Encourages an Open Mind
Don't wait until you or someone you know has cancer to read this book. It can help anyone to be encouraged to live and eat in a way that cooperates with the way our bodies were designed and perhaps help us to avoid having to face a life threatening disease. Eydie Mae is just an average person faced with not your average decisions. It was HER life and HER health and HER decision. Ann Wigmore's approach worked for her and she can't keep it to herself. I appreciate that. I am quite capable of gathering information from many sources and then deciding for myself which approach I will use just as Eydie Mae did. Dr. Jay's review insult's us "uneducated pseudo-intellectuals" or in other words, us average people, by implying that we can't possibly know anything about our bodies or disease or think for ourselves and can't learn it without years of study at a university. Eydie Mae doesn't tell you her way is the only way. She is living proof that her way worked for at least one person and perhaps can help someone else. She just asks you to have an open mind. She lets you know it is okay to color outside the lines. Since Dr. Jay says that natural remedies are "a death sentence" for many cancer patients, let me ask him this, "Can you, Dr. Jay, guarantee that if I "see my doctor and get the PROPER care" I will survive and live to write a book as Eydie Mae did.

My journey began around November 2008, when I found a lump in my left breast. I should give the credit to my dog Hunter who actually used me as a ladder to sit up on his favorite "perch" on the sofa. I felt a pain in my breast when Hunter stepped on my chest but I didn't think much of it. I did do a self breast examination and I felt a lump but I figured it was nothing; I'm a goofball and told myself it was a bone. I decided to involve several of my friends and when they felt it they all said the same thing. "Starla, you should go see a doctor!" Well, I didn't! The pain I felt was not something I've felt before but I still disregarded it. I believe I am the poster child of health and pride myself on good lifestyle choices.
Since the pain didn't go away and I couldn't ignore it any longer so I made an appointment with my doctor.
January 14, 2009 at 7pm was a scheduled appointment to check out my lump. Well, my doctor confirmed it was indeed a lump but he informed that he was leaning more towards a cyst and not cancer. I was totally confused by this because at no point did I ever entertain the thought of Cancer. My doctor explained that cancer is not associated with pain. I left the doctors in positive spirits and told myself it was nothing. The next step was to get a mammogram which I was OK with since women should start at the age of 40. Well, since I am 40, I figured I was killing two birds with one stone and happy to get it done.
January 16, 2009 at 2:30pm, I had a mammogram which was followed up with an ultrasound. The mammogram wasn't as bad as I thought. I've been told mammograms are painful so I expected the worse and it turned out to be a cake walk with minimal inconveniences. During my ultrasound, I asked the doctor if she could tell if it were a cyst and she told me it was definitely not a cyst. She informed it was "solid" and that I needed to get a needle biopsy. I wasn't too nervous because again, I am a healthy woman and new the results would be benign because that is how I roll....POSITIVE!
January 22, 2009 at 3:30pm, I went to the doctors for my scheduled needle biopsy. I was super nervous about this procedure because I do not like needles. Five samples were taken and the next step was to wait for the results.
January 27, 2009 at 9:40am, I was late for my results appointment. I knew something was wrong when I informed the doctors office that I would be late due to traffic caused by an accident. I was told that all of my results had not been received and if I could come in around noon. I was leaving for vacation at 4am the following morning; so of course, this was not going to happen. I still had packing and shopping to do! I told the person I was speaking to that she could just call me with the results. She told me that they typically don't provide the results over the phone and that I needed to go into the office. I told her she had my permission to give them to me over the phone because in my mind the results were not going to be newsworthy. I immediately figured something was up when she told me to continue to the doctors office and they would see me when I arrived and give me preliminary results.
I finally made it to the doctors office and was told by the doctor that I had breast cancer. I felt like I had been punched in the gut but it still didn't register and I refused to cry. My immediately reaction was that I was going to die! I kept a brave face and my first response was, "this is HARDCORE! The doctor responded, "Yes, it is hardcore!" I had no questions to ask and I felt like a complete idiot...I remember my mom asked me to call her once I knew the results and I didn't have the heart to tell her the bad news. She sent me a text on my cell phone and I sent one back with only, "It's cancer!" She called me and I told her I couldn't talk to her or I would cry. I lost it control of myself and cried my eyes out. I could only think about my dog Hunter and who would take care of him as well as me? I knew I had to suck it up and choose to kick some cancer ass!
January 28, 2009, I went on vacation to Washington DC with my dad. You would have never knew I had just been told bad news because I remained my cheerful, positive self.

Cancer wristbands have become popular in the last few years. Cancer wristbands can help many foundations or organizations to raise money for their cause and create awareness. Wearing a cancer wristband is a good way to make a statement and help a worthy cause. Organizations raise millions of dollars each year to help win the fight against cancer by selling these wristbands.
Colon cancer is a cancer of the large intestine, the lower part of your digestive system. According to American Cancer Society, nearly 112,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer annually. There were nearly 108,070 people suffering from colon cancer in United States in 2008. Nearly 49,960 people died from this disease in the same year. Regular screening tests can help prevent colon cancer. Wear Blue wrist band with the message "Fear nothing" and tell the world you can get through colon cancer.

Charity care has also been in the news recently, because hospitals are not telling their patients that they might be eligible for it. These are the same hospitals who are so quick to send their patients to collections when bills are not paid. Never mind that some of us have cancer and other serious illnesses, and might be having trouble paying our bills, both in the financial sense and in the how much energy do I have today? sense.
