I find it curious though that, apparently, he is not in the least upset by this last item's name. How do you say "C'est la vie" in German?
3. The Dog tells me when it's Play-time too... and his Preferred Hour is exactly when The Short-person has fallen asleep on the moderne sofa in front of the wide screen TV... he barks if I do not immediately toss one of several hundred Special Bones. The trick is for me to figure out which one his barks means... darn-it!
Both The Short-person AND myself... stressed irritable by this change in canine pyschology or, do I mean politics?... are hoping this is only A Passing Phase in The Dog's Weimaraner Self-developmental Journey... dammit... AND that he will grow out of it very, very soon. Then, we can resume our age old order of..

In other Bandit training news, were really looking forward to obedience classes in less than two weeks. There are a lot of trainers around the Capital Region, but group classes tend to be small (about five dogs a class, from what Ive seen) and are booked in advance. I started calling around back in early May, and got passed around because classes were either full or starting in July. I finally found a trainer who said she planned on starting classes the first week of June, but of course that got pushed back a few weeks.
So, if youre in the market for classes, be warned that it can seem as difficult as getting a child into an exclusive preschool. Regardless of the wait, though, Im heartened that I could teach Bandit something it makes me think that hell learn a lot from obedience class.

I have a bite, actually 3 of them on my legs. These are not like any other bites I have ever had. It is red and swollen in the diameter of... bigger than a softball, but smaller than a basketball. Pretty big. And it is swollen up about 1/4 of an inch above my skin, it is swollen enough that you can see the swelling through my pants. The center is really hard, and blistering. It itches a little, but mostly hurts. And ever since I was bit, my whole body is sore.


I don't have medical insurance, so I am avoiding going to the doctor; but is this something I should be worried about? I put benadryl on it, and it still itches. It is really hot in that area too. Any Ideas?

Don't wait on answers- Go to the doctor now. Tell them to bill you and only pay them a little a month. Dont' worry about the money- Just your health!

At least try to get into a Care Now, or Prima Care or whatever doc-in-a-box you have in your area. If you end up with blood poisoning, it could be worse.

MANCHESTER, Tenn. - Two dogs that belong to a Coffee County couple are in a veterinary hospital after the pets owners used an over-the-counter flea medication.
On Sunday, Jackie Rains said she gave her two dogs, Coco and Cody, each a dose of Sergeants Silver Flea and Tick Squeeze. An hour later, problems started to surface.
He just started running back and forth, rolling, and his back legs were kicking and jumping. I was up with him all night long crying. He couldnt sleep, said Rains.
Coco has been a part of the lives of Jackie and her husband, Curtis, for 10 years.
Currently, Curtis Rains is laid off, so his wife thought she would save money and skip the much costlier flea medication at the veterinarians office.
Veterinarians advise both dog and cat owners to be very careful when using over-the-counter flea medications.
Leaha Aldridge at Kinslow Veterinary Clinic in Lebanon has seen at least a dozen dogs and cats brought to the clinic with similar symptoms as the Rains pets.
Usually twitching, hypersalivation and muscle tremors, sometimes, in severe cases, a lot of times seizures, said Aldridge.
Vets said that most over-the-counter brands of flea medication contain Permethrin, which works in the animals blood system. Products like Advantix and Frontline contain Pyretherin, which works in the fatty layer under skin and is a safer delivery system of the medication, according to vets.
Sergeants Web site said a very small percentage of dogs experience symptoms that are short lived.
Some of these symptoms can include skin irritation, itching, scratching, drooling or foaming at the mouth.
These symptoms, according to Sergeants, can happen with any flea and tick control product and will usually go away within 24 hours.
Veterinarians said if your dog experiences an adverse reaction from a flea medication, wash your pet with dish soap and call a vet immediately.
