Ganeden Biotech, Liquid Health Labs Unveil New Drink Technology.
We are excited about our new partnership with Liquid Health Labs and the opportunity to include GanedenBC30(R) within PowerCap(R) technology, said Ganeden Biotech CEO Andrew Lefkowitz. This new probiotic blend will answer the demands of both the probiotics and beverage industries by creating a shelf stable probiotic beverage that does not require refrigeration.
Liquid Health Labs has a variety of products in development using new PowerCap(R) technologies, including more offerings with GanedenBC30(R), as well as ingredients that have been previously unavailable to the beverage industry due to manufacturing constraints.
With digestion and immunity continuing to be important health topics for many consumers, and the challenges of using probiotics in traditional beverages, developing a probiotic line with PowerCap(R) technology was a natural choice for us, said Derek Hopkins, president of Liquid Health Labs.

Heavy metal toxicity is characterized by a group of symptoms that occur when heavy metals build up, and can not be properly cleared from the body. Often, the symptoms vague and as such, get frequently misdiagnosed as incurable chronic diseases or syndromes. The more common heavy metals that we are exposed to are aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.
Heavy metals can be found everywhere and are difficult to avoid. Most peoples immune system can eliminate some heavy metals, however some people cannot pass them with efficiency and they accumulate. New research also shows that at least some of those who cant eliminate heavy metals with efficiency seem to be genetically susceptible to this condition.
When a lot of heavy metals have accumulated, they have a synergistic effect There was a study performed on rats that found that the death rate of rats exposed to small doses of either mercury or aluminum was only one in a hundred. When the rats were exposed to both mercury and aluminum concurrently every single animal died, yielding a 100% mortality rate.
The following are some of the symptoms of heavy metal toxicity:
* Chronic pain in the muscles, tendons or tissues
* Chronic malaise or a generally experiencing discomfort, fatigue, and illness * A state of confusion or forgetfulness often characterized as Brain Fog * Diarrhea, constipation, bloating, flatulence, indigestion or heartburn * Food sensitivities
* Changes in vision
* Chronic yeast (candida) or other infections
* Vertigo
* Frequent headaches
* Psychiatric symptoms such as depression or anxiety
* Burning in hands or feet, numbness, tingling in extremities or face and neck
*Heart disease including heart attack
*Chronic inflammation
Heavy metal toxicity is often misdiagnosed as chronic fatigue syndrome, autism, chronic depression, multiple sclerosis, lupus, fibromyalgia, alzheimers disease and other illnesses or diseases.
Heavy Metals Lurking in Everyday Life
Many people are unaware of the incredible number of every day items that increase our exposure to heavy metals. The following is just a sampling of how your exposure can build up.

crash free energy product with NO synthetic stimulants, added caffeine, sugar or aspartame.
So What are Energy Drinks?
Energy drinks are beverages which are designed to give the consumer a burst of energy. Various forms of energy drinks have been around since at least 1900, but they really began to rise to popularity in the 1960s, primarily in Japan and other Asian countries. By the mid-1990s, energy drinks had reached the United States and Europe, where they became immensely popular. Most energy drinks are marketed at young people, with advertising campaigns which focus on this age group.
The contents of energy drinks vary. Most of them contain stimulants and methylxanthines such as caffeine and theobromine, one of the active ingredients in chocolate. They are also packed with sugars, and may include herbal ingredients such as ginkgo biloba as well.
Commonly, the herbal ingredients are marketed as being unusual and highly fortifying, and some companies suggest that the herbs make people more intelligent as well as more alert.
There is some danger to energy drinks. Many of them contain very high amounts of caffeine, and since they are intended for rapid consumption rather than slow sipping, energy drinks can overwhelm the body, elevating blood pressure and heart rate as well as dehydrating the body and interfering with normal sleep patterns. Students are especially subject to these problems, since they may consume large amounts of energy drinks in an attempt to make it through stressful examination periods.
Often, numerous stimulants are combined in energy drinks, and the interactions of these stimulants may not be fully understood. Some common inclusions are yerba mate and ginseng, along with amino acids such as taurine and carnitine. Other stimulant ingredients are inositol, creatine, and glucuronolactone. Many of these substances are naturally created in the human body through metabolic processes, although not in the high volume used in energy drinks. Sugars such as maltodextrin help to contribute to the feeling of a rush after consuming energy drinks.
Although they are called “energy drinks,” these beverages are not suitable for athletes. Drinks specifically formulated for sports should be used instead, as energy drinks can destabilize the electrolyte balance in the body, leading to serious health problems. Energy drinks are also sometimes combined with alcohol, which can be a dangerous combination, as the drinker may feel more alert than he or she actually is, leading to potential errors in judgment.
Consuming an energy drink now and then is probably fine, as the beverages are not inherently unhealthy. However, excessive consumption is not advisable. People who experience health problems such as dizziness, heart palpitations, and a general feeling of malaise after consuming energy drinks should avoid them, and consult a doctor if the symptoms continue.
What are the effects of energy drinks?
Energy drinks have become increasingly popular for getting short boosts of energy. However, they can be misused and sometimes even when used as recommended, they cause disagreeable side effects. The effects of energy drinks can be broken into several categories.
These are short-term effects, long-term effects and side effects. Those using energy drinks should be aware of their potential benefits and risks.
For the average healthy adult the main effects of energy drinks are to briefly boost energy and alertness. This extra boost may last one or two hours or more depending upon the size of the drink, the amount of stimulants in the drink, and the tolerance of the person drinking it.
Some drinks have extremely high caffeine levels or other stimulant amounts that may make people highly energetic or very jittery depending on caffeine tolerance. People may feel “sped up” instead of more alert or awake, and many notice a withdrawal or come down period a few hours after drinking an energy drink.
Certain drinks have such high stimulant amounts that normal effects may include illness. People who drink Spike® Shooters, for instance can report feeling nausea and vomiting, irregular heartbeat, and terrible headache. This may be addressed by not drinking these drinks on an empty stomach. Yet those who are really sensitive to stimulant levels may endure several hours of illness after consuming one of these drinks.
The side effects that regularly occur with Spike® Shooters may affect those drinking other energy drinks if they drink them to excess, and a few people who are very sensitive could have side effects when they have any type of energy drink. In addition to rapid heart rate, nausea or vomiting, and headache, people may experience increase in blood pressure, swift decline in mood as the drink wears off, and persistent jitters or shakiness. Other short-term side effects of energy drinks include insomnia, headache the day after consumption, and irritability.
Very serious short-term side effects of energy drinks can include caffeine intoxication, especially when people consume more drinks than recommended. In severe cases, intoxication of this kind can lead to unstable or irregular heartbeat, muscle twitching, flushing, psychosis, disorientation, and delusions. Use of energy drinks among those who are unused to drinking caffeine may result in caffeine intoxication symptoms sooner.
The normal healthy adult probably will suffer few side effects of energy drinks, but there are certain groups that should not use these drinks. Pregnant and nursing women shouldn’t consume energy drinks. High caffeine doses can affect brain development of fetuses and nursing babies. Children should also not consume these drinks. People with caffeine sensitivity, with mental health conditions and those with any types of heart defects or disease should avoid energy drinks too.
What is Spike Shooter?
A Spike® Shooter is an energy drink introduced in 2006 by the Colorado Company Spike LLC. It is presently known to contain the highest amount of caffeine of energy drinks, and other ingredients that may increase energy temporarily. Its introduction has also been marked by controversy because some people, especially those under the age of 18, have had adverse reactions to drinking it.
The non-active ingredients of the Spike Shooter, which is sold in 8.4 fluid ounce (250 mL) cans, include carbonated water, citric acid and sucralose. Sucralose helps keep the drink calorie free, which undoubtedly improves this drink’s popularity. Many people who’ve tried the drink find it pleasantly sweet and comparable to other energy drinks in taste.
Active ingredients include 300 milligrams of caffeine and several additional “high energy” potential substances. One is Vitamin B-12 in a 15,000-mcg dose, about 25,000% of the US Recommended Daily Allowance of this vitamin. Other “energy” substances are L-tyrosine and yohimbine.
The include of L-tyrosine and yohimbine could undoubtedly briefly raise energy levels and may account for the powerful nature of the Spike Shooter, but also may be responsible for some of its problems. L-tyrosine is an amino acid used in many energy drinks, and it may improve concentration, but it may cause side effects like nausea and diarrhea, especially when taken on an empty stomach.
Yohimbine is typically used to combat impotency and sexual dysfunction. Its side effects can be significant and include racing heart and high blood pressure. Higher doses may cause panic attacks, hallucinations and dizziness.
These ingredients, especially the presence of yohimbine, may account for the numerous warning labels on Spike Shooter cans. In addition to suggesting those under 18 should not consume the drink, the can warning labels recommend the drink should be avoided by the following people:
* The elderly
* Women who are pregnant or nursing
* People with heart disease and/or high blood pressure
* Those with hypothyroidism
* People with psychiatric diseases
* Those suffering from asthma
* People who have spasms
* People who get frequent migraines
Recommendations on consumption suggest people try drinking only half a can first to see if they will tolerate the Spike Shooter. Anecdotal evidence from fans of energy drinks recommend following this advice. Most people additionally suggest that the drink is much more likely to cause vomiting if taken on an empty stomach. Other people note that the “comedown” from the energy drink is significant and may create depression and severe headache.
Despite limiting use to a few groups, Spike Shooter can be easily found in convenience stores in a number of US states and it can be ordered online. There is some talk about banning the sale of the product to those under 18, and a few high schools have banned use of it on campuses because students have had adverse reactions to it. These reactions include extreme vomiting and palpitations. There is potential danger for those who drink more than one Spike Shooter, as higher doses of caffeine and yohimbine are likely to have strong side effects.
What is Red Bull?
As one of the most popular energy drinks on the market today, Red Bull® is said to have it all. Considered to be an excellent blend of vitamins and minerals that help individuals to perk up and get on with the day, Red Bull® is enjoyed by people all over the world. Here is some information about the origin of Red Bul®l, the contents of the energy drink, and some of the health concerns that are emerging about the product.
Understood to contain elements that help with both physical and mental fatigue, Red Bull® had its origins in Thailand and was adapted for sale in Austria. Since the dawn of the 21st century, Red Bull® has been sold in over a hundred different countries. By 2006, the United Kingdom and the United States represented the largest share of the market for Red Bull®, with over 260,000,000 cans sold in the UK alone during that year. While the formula has remained constant, Red Bull® did begin to offer a sugar free version in 2003, using aspartame as the sweetener in the formula.
The nutritional value of Red Bull® is said to come from the inclusion of a range of B-complex vitamins in the product. Vitamin B is often considered essential for the creation of energy in the body. Along with the B vitamin family, Red Bull® also contains significant amounts of taurine and glucuronolactone. It should be noted that the taurine is produced synthetically, and that the listing of glucuronolactone among the ingredients is a first among energy drinks. While caffeine is often touted as the reason why Red Bull® has such a kick, the fact is that there is less caffeine in one can of Red Bull® than in the average cup of caffeinated coffee. It is the combination of other elements that appears to provide Red Bull® with its ability to make an individual feel energetic for a short time.
One of the major objections to Red Bull® has been due to the taurine content. As a compound that is naturally produced in bull bile, Red Bull® uses a synthesized version. Some countries imposed a ban on Red Bull®, owing to concerns about that process of synthesization.
Others based the ban on either the presence of glucuronolactone or the caffeine content. Claims of severe health issues that later proved to be unsubstantiated continue to circulate.
While the urban legends surrounding Red Bull® have all more or less been disproven, many healthcare professionals continue to discourage the consumption of Red Bull®. The objections come from recommending the use of other liquids to replace body fluids and staying away from any energy drink. Many energy drinks provide a temporary lift that is followed by a sense of being fatigued once the effects of the drink wear off. Some health professionals believe this artificially induced state could have long term implications for the physical well being of individuals, and urge the use of liquids with a more balanced composition of vitamins and nutrients to create an more long lasting and even sense of well being.

NO, Nitric Oxide relaxes the smooth muscle in the walls of the arterioles. At each systole, the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels release a puff of NO. This diffuses into the underlying smooth muscle cells causing them to relax and thus permit the surge of blood to pass through easily. Mice whose genes for the NO synthase found in endothelial cells (eNOS) has been "knocked out" suffer from hypertension.
Nitroglycerine, which is often prescribed to reduce the pain of angina, does so by generating nitric oxide, which relaxes the walls of the coronary arteries and arterioles.
Kidney Function and Nitric Oxide
Release of nitric oxide around the glomeruli of the kidneys increases blood flow through them thus increasing the rate of filtration and urine formation.
Penile Erection and Nitric Oxide
The erection of the penis during sexual excitation is mediated by NO released from nerve endings close to the blood vessels of the penis. Relaxation of these vessels causes blood to pool in the blood sinuses producing an erection.
Three popular prescription drugs
sildenafil (Viagra)
vardenafil (Levitra)
tadalafil (Cialis) enhance this effect by the mechanism described below.
Recent evidence suggests that NO's job in reproduction is not finished with producing an erection. At the moment of contact, release of NO by the acrosome of the sperm activates the egg to complete meiosis II and the other steps of fertilization.
Other Actions on Smooth Muscle
PeristalsisThe wavelike motions of the gastrointestinal tract are aided by the relaxing effect of NO on the smooth muscle in its walls.
BirthNO also inhibits the contractility of the smooth muscle wall of the uterus. As the moment of birth approaches, the production of NO decreases.
Nitroglycerine has helped some women who were at risk of giving birth prematurely to carry their baby to full term.
NO, Nitric Oxide and Inflammation
The NO produced by NOS-3 inhibits inflammation in blood vessels. It does this by blocking the exocytosis of mediators of inflammation from the endothelial cells.
NO may also block exocytosis in other types of cells such as macrophages and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL).
Effects on Secretion
NO affects secretion from several endocrine glands.
For examples, it stimulates
the release of Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus;
the release of pancreatic amylase from the exocrine portion of the pancreas;
the release of adrenaline from the adrenal medulla.
NO and the Nervous System
NO and the Autonomic Nervous SystemSome motor neurons of the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system release NO as their neurotransmitter.
The actions of NO on penile erection and peristalsis are probably mediated by these nerves.
NO and the Medulla Oblongata
Hemoglobin transports NO at the same time it carries oxygen [Link to discussion]. When it unloads oxygen in the tissues, it also unloads NO.
In severe deoxygenation, NO-sensitive cells in the medulla oblongata respond to this release by increasing the rate and depth of breathing.
NO and the Brain In laboratory animals (mice and rats), NO is released by neurons in the CA1 region of the hippocampus and stimulates the NMDA receptors there that are responsible for long-term potentiation (LTP) a type of memory (and learning).
The ease with which NO diffuses away from the synapse where it is generated enables it to affect nearby synapses. So what may have begun as a localized action becomes magnified.
Laboratory rats treated with inhibitors of NOS synthesis fail to develop and/or retain learned responses such as the conditioned response.
Mice whose genes for nNOS have been knocked out are healthy but display abnormal behavior, e.g., they kill other males and try to mate with nonreceptive females.
NO and FertilizationThe acrosome at the tip of sperm heads activates its NO synthase when it enters the egg. The resulting release of NO in the egg is essential (at least in sea urchins) for triggering the next steps in the process :
blocking the entry of additional sperm and
orienting the pronuclei for fusion.
Killing Pathogens
NO aids in the killing of engulfed pathogens (e.g., bacteria) within the lysosomes of macrophages.
Mice whose genes for the NO synthase found in macrophages (iNOS) have been knocked out are more susceptible to infections by intracellular bacteria like Listeria monocytogenes.
Th1 cells, the ones responsible for an inflammatory response against invaders, secrete NO.
Harmless bacteria, living as commensals at the rear of our throat, convert nitrates in our food into nitrites. When these reach the stomach, the acidic gastric juice (pH ~1.4) generates NO from them. This NO kills almost all the bacteria that have been swallowed in our food.
(Since the dawn of recorded human history, nitrites have been used to preserve meat from bacterial spoilage.)
NO and LongevityMice whose genes for eNos have been knocked out
show signs of premature aging;
have a shortened life span;
fail to benefit from the life-extending effect of a calorie-restricted (CR) diet.
Mechanisms of NO Action The signaling functions of NO begin with its binding to protein receptors on or in the cell. The binding sites can be either:
a metal ion in the protein or
one of its S atoms (e.g., on cysteine. In either case, binding triggers an allosteric change in the protein which, in turn, triggers the formation of a "second messenger" within the cell. The most common protein target for NO seems to be guanylyl cyclase, the enzyme that generates the second messenger cyclic GMP (cGMP).
Three prescription drugs
sildenafil (Viagra)
vardenafil (Levitra)
tadalafil (Cialis) enhance the effects of NO by inhibiting the enzyme that normally breaks down cGMP.
Fireflies Use NO To Turn On their Flashes
Link to a discussion.
Plants Also Use NONO has been implicated in many plant activities.
It is a weapon against invading pathogens. Infection of the plant triggers the formation of a NOS, that like the animal versions, makes NO from arginine. Release of NO by the infected cell induces a number of defense responses.
A gradient of NO may also guide the pollen tube to its destination in the ovule [Link]. The popular prescription drug sildenafil citrate (Viagra) enhances its effect on pollination (just as it does on penile erection).
NO inhibits flowering.
NO promotes recovery from etiolation.
and others.

For examples, it stimulates
the release of Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus;
the release of pancreatic amylase from the exocrine portion of the pancreas;
the release of adrenaline from the adrenal medulla.
NO and LongevityMice whose genes for eNos have been knocked out
show signs of premature aging;
have a shortened life span;
fail to benefit from the life-extending effect of a calorie-restricted (CR) diet.

Rhubarb is an old-fashioned favorite from the garden. It gives so much and asks for so little in return. The leaves are toxic, but the tart stalks lend themselves well to simple desserts. Fruits and sugar tame the zing. It can be chopped and frozen in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. If youve never been a fan of it or have an abundance to use up, youll enjoy the following recipes.
Rhubarb Tea
8 cups rhubarb, cut into 1-inch pieces
8 cups water
juice of one orange or lemon, about 2-1/2 tablespoons
1 pint fresh strawberries, mashed
3/4 cup sugar
fresh mint
Place rhubarb and water in a pot. Simmer for 20 minutes until rhubarb is tender. Strain the liquid. Pour it into a blender. Add the citrus juice and strawberries. Add sugar, and blend until dissolved and well combined. Cool and serve over ice. Garnish with fresh mint.

Minerals in their proper form provide the catalyst that allow vitamins to be utilized and are essential for 95% of all metabolic functions of the human body. Without minerals, vitamins are of little value.
What makes it PMC superior?
Approximately 68 to 74 plant derived, complexed and dissolved liquid minerals in their unaltered, organic form for maximum bio-availability. “Organic, plant derived” means there are no metallic or clay based minerals in our product, which translates to no toxic heavy metal build up.
What makes PMC different?
The high HUMIC VULVIC MINERAL COMPLEXES content of PMC increases retention, absorption, and utilization of all the nutrients in food and supplements. A higher concentration of Fulvic also extends the time nutrients remain active in the body.
What does HUMIC VULVIC MINERAL COMPLEXES in PMC do in the body ?
* Fulvic energizes and restores cells electrochemical balance
* It performs healing functions throughout the body
* Fulvic stimulates the natural production of enzymes
* It is one of the most powerful antioxidants and free radical scavengers known
* Fulvic works to destroy acid in body fluids, as well as increasing oxygen in blood
* Fulvic transports nutrients right into cells, and it increases absorption of oxygen
* Fulvic makes cell membranes more permeable
* It carries nutrients directly into the cells.
* It also changes the pattern of metabolism of carbohydrates
* Fulvic is a powerful detoxer it flushes heavy metals and pollutants from the system
* It has powerful natural anti-fungal and anti-biotic properties
Scientists believe disease is rampant today because people are so deficient in Fulvic and all the minerals and trace elements it contains.
“You can trace every sickness, every disease and
every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”

A blood transfusion is definitely not a pleasant thing, but as most procedures go, they aren't that bad either. Why you are getting a blood transfusion can be a determining factor as to how easily the procedure will go.
I personally just had a blood transfusion because my hemoglobin was at 79 and my iron was at 2. Symptoms I personally felt from the anemia was tiredness, weakness, shaky legs and hands, heavy heart palpitations, a whooshing sound in my head that included my heartbeat and dizziness. I also had started to slur, my tongue felt like it was cut up and my lips had started to crack. I was very pale with deep dark circles under my eyes. These symptoms may not appear in all people, and you may need a blood transfusion for a reason other than severe anemia.
If going to the emergency department for severe anemia, expect that they will want to do blood tests. For those who are severely anemic, this may prove to be a problem. Severe anemia comes with the downfall of often having small, rolling and/or collapsing veins making blood tests a bit of a challenge. If they have to "dig" for the vein, this can be pretty painful and will leave awful bruising. Applying ice immediately to the area that the needle was inserted can significantly reduce bruising and swelling. Another hint I recently got from my doctor was to press down firmly on the area for a full five minutes once the needle has been removed, it may be painful but will reduce the bruising in the long run.
Once the blood tests are collected it takes approximately an hour for the lab to deliver results. From there the doctor will decide how much blood you need, what your blood type is and the match will be made for you. At this point, if it hasn't already been done, an intravenous needle will be inserted most likely into your hand. The doctor may or may not start you on a saline drip. The previously mentioned issues with needles applies to the IV as well.
It can take several hours for the donor blood to arrive to your room. When it does arrive, two nurses will double check to make sure the blood matches the information on the work-order and your wrist band. This is to ensure you get the right blood.
Once the blood is hooked up to your IV, you are looking at approximately 2 hours per pint. If you have a heart condition this could take much longer. Because the blood is refrigerated, you may get a cool feeling in your hand and arm when it starts. A nurse will keep a close eye on you, especially during the first 15 minutes. He/she will be watching for a fever, a significant change in blood pressure and/or pulse. You will be asked questions about how you are feeling, any itching or shortness of breath amongst other things. The fever is usually tested with a normal thermometer under the tongue, a blood pressure cuff is used to check your blood pressure. The blood pressure cuff is uncomfortable as it squeezes the upper arm and then releases, but is not unbearable. Your pulse is taken by a little clamp loosely attached to your finger, it is not uncomfortable in the least. After the first 15 minutes the nurse will continue checking on you periodically.
If you are getting more than one pint of blood, expect it to take between 10 and 30 minutes between switching the bags. With every new bag of blood, the two nurses will again double check the codes and you will be monitored closely again for the first 15 minutes, then periodically afterward.
When all the pints of blood have been emptied, the tube going from the blood bag to your IV will be flushed with saline, which takes about 30 minutes if you are going through a bag every 2 hours. Once the tube is flushed, the nurse will remove the IV, and this is where you want to press hard on the area for 5 minutes. Now you can go home! You can drive yourself, there should be no after effects unless of course, like me you were severely anemic, at which point the only side effect is that you will feel much better.
I hope this basic rundown of a typical blood transfusion helps you understand what to expect in this situation and that you are now equipped with the knowledge to handle the situation with ease.

The trouble with that reply is that there is PLENTY of very explicilty material which has NOT been deranked, and we dont need to guess much about if it is or isnt adult when we simply look at some of the titles: Girls Gone Wild: Girls on Girls, Surrender the Booty 3: The Search for More Arse, Jenna Jameson: Ultimate Collection, Girls Kissing: Volume One, Ron Jeremy: The Hardest Working Man in Showbiz, Candy Girl: A Year In The Life Of An Unlikely Stripper, Hot Babes…
My book is intended for young adults, and is GLBT-inclusive, and penned by me, a queer author. It is not salacious, it is not pornography: it is a sexuality, sexual health and relationships reference book. Heather Has Two Mommies is a supportive and classic childrens book about gay families. Hello, Cruel World is a suicide prevention book (which just happens to be written by a transgender author). Thats a short list, but the point is, many of the books that have been deranked are not adult books at all, nor adult or salacious material, but what nearly all of them, so far, do seem to be are tagged or labeled in some way as GLBT, or as books addressing sexuality in a non-heteronormative or gendernormative way.

When I was in college, in the prehistoric days, I was a veteran bus traveler. I am not talking about the city buses but the kind you would take from city to city three states apart.
You know the kind of which I speak. I am talking about the long-distance ones that smelled not unlike you were stepping into an ashtray on wheels. There was always the peculiar smell of cigarettes, beer, and that nursing home smell that you encountered when you went to visit your 900-year-old aunt.
The seats in those nastiness-on-wheels buses were positively nightmarish. I still dream about them. I think I suffer from (among many things) a post-traumatic bus-seat stress disorder. Those seats were little butt seats. I mean you had to have the butt of a 10-year-old dwarf child to sit comfortably in them! And, if you were lucky, there would be some duct tape covering the hole where someone smuggled drugs or where there was a spring ready to impale one of your butt cheeks.
The floors! My God, the floors! There was always something sticky covering the floors and they were a necrotic-tissue colorblack. I am positive they contributed to the assortment of smells that wafted into your nostrils on entering the bus.
The bathrooms in those buses were virtually impossible to use. If you managed to drop your britches to use the toilet and sit down, you were assured of a skull fracture from being propelled off the thing as though someone suddenly jerked the toilet up and forward when the bus driver (probably drunk) accelerated.
Once, I had to take a bus from Clarksville, Arkansas, to York, Pennsylvania, for Christmas break. The trip, boring and tiring as it was, wasnt that bad and we were making good time. I was going to have to spend three days, count them, three days traveling in a bus.
Well, somewhere in Tennessee, I think, the bus driver decided to stop somewhere in the middle of the night for a bite to eat. It was, as I said, in the middle of the night and while we all slept he took a little extra time to do God only knows what.
His little rest stop put us late getting into somewhere (I forget) which caused me to miss my connection. In addition, it was snowing, delaying the next bus I could have taken.
I had to spend two days in a bus station, with no hotel money, waiting for the worst snowstorm in the history of mankind to clear up so the appropriate bus could get there.
I called my parents and made them swear they would fly me back to Arkansas after Christmas should I survive this ordeal.
That was the last time I ever rode a bus in America.
Now come with me to Mexico: My wife and I went to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas, 2004. We took the ENT bus line. This thing was, and I swear to you, like the first-class section of the most expensive airline only magnified to the power of 1000.
As you got on, they served a lunch and drink. There was a galley for your tea or coffee pleasure. There were two bathrooms in that bus. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? The seats were big-butt seats, like on a first-class airline, and were actually comfortable to sleep in. There were private headphones for music or for watching the movie. You heard rightthe bus had video screens for a movie!
Get this: They insolated the bus walls because you could hear nothing from outside the bus.
Can you begin to fathom how a so-called third world country can offer this most astounding bus traveling experience while the United Statesdeveloped country?still offers (so I am told) basically the same torture that I suffered in the 70s?

(SpaceRef) Temperature fluctuation in the arctic region of Mars where Phoenix landed and salts in the soil could create pockets of water too salty to freeze in the climate of the landing site, Renno says.
Photos of one of the lander's legs show droplets that grew during the polar summer. Based on the temperature of the leg and the presence of large amounts of "perchlorate" salts detected in the soil, scientists believe the droplets were most likely salty liquid water and mud that splashed on the spacecraft when it touched down. The lander was guided down by rockets whose exhaust melted the top layer of ice below a thin sheet of soil. [...]
The wet chemistry lab on Phoenix found evidence of perchlorate salts, which likely include magnesium and calcium perchlorate hydrates. These compounds have freezing temperatures of about -90 and -105 Fahrenheit respectively. The temperature at the landing site ranged from approximately -5 to -140 Fahrenheit, with a median temperature around -75 Fahrenheit. Temperatures at the landing site were mostly warmer than this during the first months of the mission.

Suppose you could put a steel band tightly around the equator of Earth. Assume, for the sake of this puzzle, that the earth is perfectly round, without hills or valleys, and that the steel band would make an exact circle around the Earth where it is touching the surface evenly. Then, you take a cutting torch, open up a gap in this band, and weld in exactly 1 extra meter (for non-metric readers, approximately 1 yard) of metal.
Question: how high would this extra meter of material allow the band to be raised, evenly, throughout the entire circumference of the earth. If you haven't heard this question before, the answer will likely amaze you.

When I speak of natural cures for depression, Im referring to lasting changes in the way you live day-to-daynot herbal supplements and the like.
This is not to say that doctor prescribed meds for depression ( for example) should not be taken for short-term help.
Prescription Meds Fix Only One Part Of Depression
No, normally this will fix only part of your problem. It comes down to how hard you try at your new way of life that will be the real cure. Depression is a signal that your life has gotten out of balance; its a wake-up call. So yourself of depression involves doing whatever is necessary to get your life back in balance.
These things include daily (or almost daily) aerobic exercise, eating healthy foods, not smoking, no heavy drinking, and NO illegal drugs whatsover. Most likely doing just these things by themselves will depression in most cases. things would be things like counseling or other cognitive therapies.
But when many folks think of natural cures for depression, they think of herbal such as St. Johns Wort. The hope is its going to be another This isnt surprising. After all, we live in an age of instant gratification. Weve been conditioned to expect an instant and easy solution for nearly everything:
Instant Gratification
No time to cook? Fast food drive throughs are open all night. Need cash at 9 pm? The ATM. Need your oil changed? Jiffy Lube. Need information on stem cell research for a paper due soon? The internetNeed this paper done for you? Have you credit card handy.
Same for our medical needs: Are you tired? Drink a Rock Star or Red Bull or similar energy drink for an instant burst of energyheck, even the remotest backwoods gas station carries them. Feeling stressed out? Take a ValiumYou can get a steady supply if you really want to. Dont want to get pregnant? You guessed it, a pill. Do you have RLSRestless Leg Syndrome? Sure you do, and the big pharmaceutical companies can PROVE you doand they happen to have the remedyin a pill, of course.
So its no wonder we expect that depression can be eliminated with a cure-in-a-bottlea pill bottle. Its not our fault, weve just been conditioned to expect it to be this way.
Dont Expect The Pharmaceutical Industry To Help With A Cure
The pharmaceutical companies DO have some good drugs for us. Sometimes our neurotransmittersthe chemicals in our brains responsible for our moodsneed help to even out the highs and lows. But this is the simplest and easiest part of curing depression. The difficult part is exercising daily and eating healthy, not to mention stopping ALL self-destructive behaviorslike smoking, drinking, and abusing other recreational drugs. This is the grunt work of curing depression, the part that no one talks about much.
For starters, theres little incentive for the pharmaceutical giants to promote treatments such as healthy and exercise, because theres no money in it.
Your Dedication Will Pay Off Big-Time
Nope, its up to the depressed person to motivate him or herself to do these things daily and to NOT abuse drugs or alcohol. And it cant be a temporary thing like a diet; it must be a habit like bathing.
Accomplishing some of these natural cures for depression is easier said than done. Because if it were easy, not many folks would be depressed and need prescription medication in the first place. Somehow, however, you are going to have to take action on an improvement plan for yourself.
Natural Cures For Depression Dont Come Easy, But Are Worth It!
Having a plan of action to improve yourself is a great start. But remember that there is no change without ACTION; knowing what to do is great, but you must take measurable action to get and stay well for the rest of your life. These natural cures for depression take some effort, but theyre the only way for a fulfilling and happy life. Yes, you can do it.

Eshoo and Upton Introduce Bill to Provide Relief for Millions with Arthritis
A new bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives today will strengthen efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis - the nation's most common cause of disability. The bi-partisan legislation introduced by U.S. Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Fred Upton (R-Mich.), will address a disease that impacts more than 46 million adults and nearly 300,000 children.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 26, 2009 -- A new bill introduced in the U.S.
"As the leading cause of disability in the United States, we must do more to help treat, cure, and ultimately prevent this disease that affects one in five American adults. This legislation will encourage doctors to pursue pediatric rheumatology to help the thousands of children who suffer from juvenile arthritis and have no access to the right care," says Rep. Eshoo.
The American College of Rheumatology and the Arthritis Foundation applaud the efforts of Eshoo and Upton for introducing the Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act and urge Congress to take swift action.
"Arthritis and rheumatic diseases will likely touch every American in some stage of their lives - either as patients or caregivers. This is a serious issue and should be treated as seriously as we treat other diseases. We must require our lawmakers to take action and send a message to the 46 million that they have not been forgotten in health care," explains Sherine Gabriel, MD, president of the American College of Rheumatology.
According to the Arthritis Foundation, the personal and financial burden of arthritis on our society is enormous and action must be taken now. Currently, arthritis disables 19 million Americans and takes a $128 billion toll annually on the U.S. economy in direct and indirect medical costs.
"Even as the number of people with arthritis rises, federal funding for arthritis research has declined in today's dollar, and intervention programs that could limit the impact are being underutilized," says John H. Klippel, MD, president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation.
The Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act would enhance rheumatic disease research and expand efforts to prevent, treat and care for people with arthritis and related rheumatic diseases by:
Enhancing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's public health activities related to arthritis
Expanding and strengthening National Institutes of Health programs relating to juvenile arthritis
Establishing a juvenile arthritis population database
Enhancing support for training programs
Establishing a loan repayment program for pediatric rheumatologists to address the country's severe shortage of these critical health care providers
"This important legislation takes the offensive in our effort to provide relief to the 46 million children and adults who suffer from arthritis each day," says Representative Upton. "We cannot be complacent - few realize arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States, inflicting severe, debilitating pain for one out of every five adults. We are long overdue in finding a cure for arthritis, and this measure will boost efforts needed to conquer this disease."
The American College of Rheumatology and the Arthritis Foundation urge Americans, both young and old, to show support for this bill by contacting their members of Congress. Call the AMA Grassroots Hotline at (800) 833-6354 or visit www.arthritis.org/advocacy.php

Flu season is here and many of us will get sick. It seems we have more to worry about, though, because of antibiotic resistant Superbugs. There are things you can do to help protect yourself and even get healthier, quicker.
The herbs Echinacea and Goldenseal help rev up your immune system - up to 60%! This is helpful since it causes your own immune system to activate, which may help strengthen it. When used in a liquid combination, these herbs have been used to kill bacteria, fungi and protozoa and help to treat infections.
Goldenseal has been used for centuries to kill all kinds of bacteria including Streptococci, and has immune stimulating qualities. It also helps to protect the mucous membranes from infections in the throat, sinus, bronchi and even the gastrointestinal tract.
Echinacea has been shown to stimulate the immune system by promoting activity and T-cell activation. It also helps your white blood cells to aggressively attack germs.
This herbal combination can be a powerful addition to your medicine cabinet during flu season. The liquid form may work the best. It can be absorbed easier than breaking down a pill - which is helpful for those who are sick or who have gastrointestinal complaints. But be careful - if you take it longer than 10-14 days, your body will stop responding to it and it wont work as well.
Drink plenty of warm lemon water. Just squeeze some fresh lemon juice into a glass of warm water and enjoy. The warm water will help your body absorb the juice quicker.
Lemon juice is one of the most powerful antiseptic agents you can find in nature. It kills germs and helps clear mucous from the body. It contains powerful antioxidants, is high in Vitamin C and contrary to popular belief, is very alkaline. Therefore it can help alkalize your body, which helps you heal faster.
Essential Oils of Lavender and Lemon can help you relax while killing bacteria and other pathogens at the same time. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to protect and fight disease. Both of these oils have traditionally been used to help fight infection, kill germs, help circulate and cleanse the immune system and help with overall relaxation which the body needs to heal.
If you decide to try these oils this flu season - be sure to get the oils that are made to be used on the skin as opposed to only in aromatherapy gadgets. When you find the oils that can be used on your skin, dilute it half almond or olive oil. These are carrier oils that helps your body absorb them. Try putting the mixture on the inside of your wrists, behind your ears, the lower part of your spine and on the bottom of your feet. They also make a nice addition to a healing bath.
Dont forget the old stand-by, Vitamin C and lots of it. It is a powerful antioxidant, stimulates tissue growth and repair, and helps the body produce collagen. It has been shown to help decrease symptoms of asthma in some patients. It is well known to increase immunity to infections and even helps lower blood pressure.
There are two important parts to vitamin C; dehydroascorbic acid and ascorbic acid. Unfortunately vitamin supplements usually include only one part called ascorbic acid. Therefore, it is best to get your main supply from food sources including these fruits and their fresh squeezed juices; lemons, oranges, limes, grapefruits, pineapples, papayas and even guavas.
This brings us to the last, yet very important fact that will help you strengthen your immune system this flu season - eat healthy foods. It is as simple as that. Junk food burdens your digestion which can overload your entire body. This can cause your immune system to become sluggish and not work fully. In addition, excess sugar can literally shut down the immune system.
Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with unprocessed proteins and whole grains are easier for the body to digest, which in turn allows this extra energy to be used for the immune system to do its job. In addition there is the obvious - these foods provide the vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and enzymes needed to keep your immune system running and your body repairing.
Any or all of these tips can help you stay or get healthy this flu season. Use these to strengthen your immune system, keep your organs of detoxification working and help your system move any of the bad guys, including bacteria, germs and virus, out of your body before they can do harm.
